Politics: Greed and Debt: The True Story of Mitt Romney and Bain Capital

The great criticism of Mitt Romney, from both sides of the aisle, has always been that he doesn't stand for anything. He's a flip-flopper, they say, a lightweight, a cardboard opportunist who'll say anything to get elected.

The critics couldn't be more wrong. Mitt Romney is no tissue-paper man. He's closer to being a revolutionary, a backward-world version of Che or Trotsky, with tweezed nostrils instead of a beard, a half-Windsor instead of a leather jerkin. His legendary flip-flops aren't the lies of a bumbling opportunist – they're the confident prevarications of a man untroubled by misleading the nonbeliever in pursuit of a single, all-consuming goal. Romney has a vision, and he's trying for something big: We've just been too slow to sort out what it is, just as we've been slow to grasp the roots of the radical economic changes that have swept the country in the last generation.

The incredible untold story of the 2012 election so far is that Romney's run has been a shimmering pearl of perfect political hypocrisy, which he's somehow managed to keep hidden, even with thousands of cameras following his every move. And the drama of this rhetorical high-wire act was ratcheted up even further when Romney chose his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin – like himself, a self-righteously anal, thin-lipped, Whitest Kids U Know penny pincher who'd be honored to tell Oliver Twist there's no more soup left. By selecting Ryan, Romney, the hard-charging, chameleonic champion of a disgraced-yet-defiant Wall Street, officially succeeded in moving the battle lines in the 2012 presidential race.

Like John McCain four years before, Romney desperately needed a vice-presidential pick that would change the game. But where McCain bet on a combustive mix of clueless novelty and suburban sexual tension named Sarah Palin, Romney bet on an idea.

It's Rush's main trait: The law of attraction. If it sounds pretty, if it looks pretty (I want to call Mitt Mort-the guy looks like a morticion) then it must be good, honest, hard-working, respectful, etc. etc. Unless you are part of a rich, powerful, family, or have an untold fortune (tax returns, anyone?) then you'd be voing against yourself and your interests, future, etc. to vote for these guys...

Nice try with the distraction tatics. You can criticize all you want. It amazes me that there are so many of you writing anything but the facts of the last 4 years, you've stooped so low that it's becoming transparent to the American people what your up to. Socialism has no place in America. Sooner or later you'll run out of everyone else's money and the people who created the wealth will be gone offshore forever while America follows Rome down the tubes. History does repeat itself. This is a dangerous game your playing. It's treason. History will look back and blame the American people as they are the problem for electing him in the first place. Talk about Obama's record, talk about where we are NOW compared to when he took office. Your a traitor to the American people

@ proamerica- your pathetic...crawl back in your hole, we will see you in 4 years Great article! I love the specifics about Bain and its dealings. Well done, bravo. Are we better of than 4 years ago? I get people jobs for a living and i can tell you that things have gotten better year over year since 2008. Bush/Cheney left this country bleeding out and on the verge of collapse. Obama has been able to stabalize the nation, get us out of the abortion known as Iraq, set an end goal for Afganistan and put us on a path to recovery. Are we where we want to be yet? No, but we are headed in the right direction.

Hey proamerica what flavor is the koolaid? It's people like you who are either too beholden to the house of cards that is our free market system or too ignorant to see what is so obvious that have allowed our government to put the last two wars on the credit card and continually look the other way while wall street thinks up new ways to create earnings out of thin air always at the expense of the taxpayers who are not wealthy enough or slimy enough or creative enough to avoid paying their fair share
