Gavin DeGraw, the singer-songwriter best known for his pop hits "I Don't Want to Be" and "Chariot," was hospitalized late Sunday night after he was assaulted by a group in Manhattan's East Village. According to New York police spokesman Lieutenant John Grimpel, it is still unclear why DeGraw was attacked, but a source tells Us Weekly that it was "not his fault."

DeGraw was listed in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital Center after suffering a broken and facial cuts in the attack. A representative for the singer issued a statement saying that he is "currently under observation." DeGraw is scheduled to open for a Maroon 5 and Train gig in Saratoga Springs tonight, but a source told Us Weekly that "they don't know if he will be okay to make the show."
